The Gadfly (Овод)
Ironically it was probably based on fanciful tales told to the author by Sidney Reilly, who entered history as a young Russian anarchist, but ended up as a counter-revolutionary agent who some may recognize as the inspiration for the James Bond books.
Here is a link to the 1955 version, which most people would claim is the best, although I haven’t been able to get my hands on the 1928 version

Any hints on where to get a version of the 1955 movie with English subtitles would be much appreciated!
