Generosity taken to a new level

A DARWIN pensioner whose car was stolen twice in the same night by a 12-year-old boy plans to buy the young thief a computer to try to keep him out of jail. "There are people who really do care about kids like that,” he said. "There is a better life than that.” His Datsun Laurel was stolen from the carpark at Kurringal flats at Fannie Bay three weeks ago. Police found it within a few hours and Mr Wilhelmsen went and retrieved it. Mr Wilhelmsen said when police told him the same boy was involved in both thefts he wanted to try and keep the boy out of jail. A Christian who volunteers at the Salvation Army shop, he will use the $1400 Christmas bonus promised to pensioners from the Federal Government to buy the computer. He said he wanted to show young thieves there was hope in the world. "If you give bad things then you’re only going to get bad things," he said. "If you give good, you will get good." Mr Wilhelmsen said he would try to get maths and literacy programs installed on the computer - not violent games, and certainly not Grand Theft Auto. |

I’m completely astounded by this guy, what a nice bloke. He’s a pensioner too so he wouldn’t have that much money to spend!
However I think a more effective approach would be to deal with the parents. If their kid is stealing cars at 12 then there’s seriously something wrong with their parenting skills.
