Communist Party of Britain splits

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
Reports and rumours are flying all around the left corners of the internet that the Communist Party of Britain is in the midst of a major split.

The CPB has been divided for some time into a pro-Labour wing and a wing which is interested in building a left alternative to Labour. The divisions were obvious at the time of the launch of the Respect Coalition, when a narrow majority rejected participation.

Since then, the CPB has been involved in the No2EU slate with the RMT, the Socialist Party, the Alliance for Green Socialism and others. Since then those organisations have been discussing launching a less narrowly focused left alliance. This week, however, the CPB Executive Committee voted against participation in such an alliance, leaving a number of leading figures and a substantial portion of the party membership rather pissed off.

Rumours are now circulating that Griffiths, the General Secretary of the CPB, and John Haylett, the editor of the Morning Star, are going to break away to set up a communist party with more of an orientation towards left unity.

[anarchistnews.org] UC Santa Cruz Occupation Ends

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
Although it remains unmentioned on the occupation blog at occupyca.wordpress.com, Occupy California seems to have ended their occupation of a graduate student center on the University of Santa Cruz campus. The occupation began September 24 and ended October 2 (according to press sources), making the eight day demand-less occupation the longest student occupation since the 1960s and ending without any arrests.

The following is a Santa Cruz Sentinel story covering the end of the occupation, although it has no direct sources from the occupiers. read more

[anarchistnews.org] Radical Success

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
From Baltimore Magazine
Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse defies the economy with a progressive agenda and a new free school.

On a late summer evening, a dozen students in their 20s and 30s take seats around an oversized picnic table and on rows of bleachers inside the Baltimore Museum of Art’s geodesic dome. John Duda, one of the founders of Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse collective, prepares to lead tonight’s class, "Urban Development as Counterinsurgency," but he can’t start. The students keep arriving.

"The problem with starting everything 15 minutes late," jokes Kate Khatib, another Red Emma’s collective founder, "is that people start showing up 15 minutes late for everything." read more

Everyday workplace resistance

not sure if this is the right place for this; if not please move

Im not sure how many people on revleft work, but im sure most of us unfortunately have to live by the rules of the cappies from time to time, putting in time at shitty jobs. I work at a petrol station, dispensing fossil fuels, fags and alcohol. Its pretty grim.
But I try too keep my spirits up with small acts of resistance. Purchasers of the Daily Mail get the slowest, surlyest service possible, Guardian buyers get fast and cheerful. I refuse to say "serve" the customers, I deal with them. Suits with company cars always get a cup full of change instead of fivers ect ect. When I can get away with it I will advise customers which products are outragously expensive and which are just expensive. Im only there for 6 months, so fuck ‘em. Doesn’t seem like much, but it keeps one’s spirits up a little through an 8 hour shift.

Does anyone else do anything similar?

[anarchistnews.org] Retribution Against Daily Life; Bank Attacked in Chicago

…seven windows were broken at Chicago Community Bank on the near south side. One for each of those arrested, and one more for the bid.
On Tuesday night, the state arrested six individuals and charged them with felonies in connection to anti-Olympic hooliganism. This persecution is completely unacceptable.

To extend revolutionary solidarity, seven windows were broken at Chicago Community Bank on the near south side. One for each of those arrested, and one more for the bid. In the joyful wake of this criminal-becoming, three windows were done away with on an unmarked police cruiser. This was done because, well– You know.read more

[anarchistnews.org] Mexico: Emergence of an Unexpected Threat

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
From Right Side News
At approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 25, a small improvised explosive device (IED) consisting of three or four butane canisters was used to attack a Banamex bank branch in the Milpa Alta delegation of Mexico City. The device damaged an ATM and shattered the bank’s front windows. It was not an isolated event. The bombing was the seventh recorded IED attack in the Federal District - and the fifth such attack against a local bank branch - since the beginning of September.

The attack was claimed in a communique posted to a Spanish-language anarchist Web site [Liberación Total; Total Liberation] by a group calling itself the Subversive Alliance for the Liberation of the Earth, Animals and Humans (ASLTAH). The note said, "Once again we have proven who our enemies are," indicating that the organization’s "cells for the dissolution of civilization" were behind the other, similar attacks.

An interesting Tea Party protest video…

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
I found this a couple of weeks ago, thought I’d share it with you all today. Searched for it in the forum, couldn’t find another post with it, so here it is. It is absolutely enraging, and I’ve sent it to anyone I could find willing to listen. I know you all are open minded, so please enjoy this. It’s produced and hosted by New Left Media.

Apparently I have to have 25 posts first. So replace the exclamation points with a period.

Education, Hospitals and similar institutions in a communist stateless society

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009
Another one of my stateless society questions. I’m sorry about these. If anyone could recommend to me a text on the stateless society then I would be greatly appreciative. We’ve covered the whole Law Enforcement issue and the idea of workers’ militias has been suggested time and time again it appears. But what would become of institutions such as Schools, Libraries, Universities/Colleges and Hospitals? These require heavy government funding and after an anti-establishment movement they would be obsolete, or would they?
